AMDEX Wins Contract to Enhance Innovative Telemedicine Technologies at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)

Firm is Awarded a Third National Institutes of Health (NIH) TELESYNERGY® Medical Consultation WorkStation Contract



Silver Spring, Maryland, May 7, 2010 - AMDEX Corporation, a CMMI Level 3 rated, IT and Professional Services firm has been awarded a five-year contract to enhance and support innovative telemedicine technologies for the Computational Bioscience and Engineering Laboratory (CBEL). CBEL is a biomedical research and development organization at the Center for Information Technology (CIT) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is the third competitive award that AMDEX has won to support CBEL projects.

As part of this contract, AMDEX will continue to support the TELESYNERGY® Medical Consultation WorkStation, a multimedia, medical imaging workstation that allows radiologists and other medical professionals to collaborate on cancer research and treatment throughout the world. The WorkStation is utilized by 26 national and international institutions including the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In addition, AMDEX will provide programming support for CBEL’s Organ and Lesion Volume Server (OLVS) project, and Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) services. AMDEX has been providing programming support to the NIH/CBEL since 2002.


Telemedicine, a growing field within the healthcare industry, is the application of clinical medicine via audiovisual tools used to assist or perform medical consultations, diagnoses, collaborations or procedures. As an integral part in the future of healthcare, Telemedicine is being researched and utilized by many federal agencies as a means of providing more effect and cost-efficient healthcare. In 2003, agencies within the Federal government were estimated to have provided 350,000 patient services through the usage of Telemedicine.
